Vienna, Virginia is located in Fairfax County.  At the time of the 2000 census, Vienna had a population of about 14,500 residents and it has grown by about 3% since.  In July 2005, CNN/Money and Money Magazine rated Vienna fourth on its list of the top 100 places to live in the United States. 

Vienna(Information
Overview Map) was originally called Ayr Hill after the name of a house built by an early settler John Hunter.  The towns name was changed in 1850 when a doctor named William Hendrick offered to move there but only if the town would rename itself after his hometown of Vienna, New York. 
 

Fairfax and Vienna Public Schools have constantly been ranked as having some of the best public schools in the country.  Vienna is home to two high schools, two middle schools, and six elementary schools.  However, only three of the elementary schools: Cunningham Park, Marshall Road, and Vienna elementary schools are within city limits. 

The music program at James Madison High School boasts an award winning marching band The Pride of Vienna along with a jazz band, orchestra and chorus.

Virginia high school students continue to see their InformationACT scores rising. In fact, they now top the national average of 21.1 out of a possible 36.  On average, Virginia students scored a 21.8. 

Shopping in Vienna is comprised of mom and pop stores along with nationally known retailers and high end shopping centers.  One of those shopping centers is InformationThe Shops at Fairfax This shopping center contains the likes of InformationGucci, Tiffany, and Louis Vuitton just to name a few.

Getting to and from, and getting around Vienna are fairly easy things to do.  The city is home to a Washington Metrorail Station just south of town.  The orange line ends with a stop in Vienna. 
 
The
InformationWashington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority runs lines throughout Washington, D.C. and the various suburbs.  Cost varies depending on the time of day, but most maximums are $2.35 to $4.50. 

Known as InformationMetroBus, the Washington Metro, also provides bus service in Virginia. Information
MetroBus Fares depend on if the rider pays cash or uses a smart pay system.

Taxis are also readily available as are limo services.  Costs for these will vary depending on distance and other factors. 

There are many things to do around Vienna for almost any taste.  For those who like to be outdoors and use a trail to ride or run along, one of the better known ones is the InformationWashington and Old Dominion Trail.   The whole park runs for 45 miles although it is only about 100 yards wide.  The trail can be used for walking, jogging or bicycling. 

For those interested in music, the InformationWolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts is the place to go.  The Wolf Trap has several different venues including one with seating for 7,000.  There is also a casual performance space along with a meadow pavilion, theatre in the woods and an opera company. 

The InformationTown of Vienna Parks and Recreation is also dedicated to providing quality activities, programs and facilities.  The city holds various classes and camps as well as celebrations on holidays such as the 4th of July.  Please take a moment to view the many Information
