McLean, Virginia (pronounced mick-CLANE) in located in an unincorporated part of Fairfax County Virginia. McLean( Overview Map) is comprised of approximately 18.5 square miles and lies to the west of Arlington County, and is bordered by the Potomac River to the north. The city received its name from John McLean, a former publisher of the Washington Post. The community itself was founded in 1910 when the two cities of Lewinsville and Langley merged.
As of the 2000 census, McLean had a population of about 40,000 residents. Many of the residents are affluent and most of the population is located between the George Washington Parkway and the town of Vienna. Many diplomats, members of Congress, and high ranking federal officials call the city home. There are numerous companies headquartered in McLean including USA Today, Capital One, Hilton Hotels, Mars and the CIA.
Students are zoned for the Fairfax County Public School System. There are also numerous private schools including: The Madeira School, The Potomac School, The Langley School, Oakcrest School, Saint Luke School, Saint John Academy, Brooksfield Montessori, and Country Day School.
Shopping in McLean consists of many upscale malls. Two of which are the Tysons Corner Center and Tysons Galleria. Tysons Galleria is located at 2001 International Drive and is home to such stores as Burberry, Cartier, Chanel, Lucky Brand Jeans, Ann Taylor and many more. Overall, there are 120 shops and stores in the galleria.
Tysons Corner Center is another upscale shopping center located in McLean. The mall is located at 1961 Chain Bridge Road and has such stores as Ann Taylor, American Eagle, Brookstone, Crate and Barrel, Coach and many more.
There are no metro rail stops for McLean, but there are still plenty of ways to get around. There are numerous car companies in McLean including American Sedan, American Transportation Services, A1 Limousine Service, and many more. These services offer transportation not only throughout McLean, but also transportation to and from area airports and Washington D.C. Cost is dependent on service, company, distance and time used.

Great Falls Park, McLean VA

There are numerous things to do in and around McLean including spending time in local parks. One of the best is the Great Falls Park, . The park is located along the Potomac River and offers hiking, bicycling, bird watching, falls and river viewing, boating, fishing , horseback riding and climbing. It costs $3 dollars to enter the park and there is also a $5 vehicle fee.
Clemyjontri Park is also another popular place to take the kids. The park consists of a playground accessible to children of all abilities. It also features a picnic area and carousel.
The Claude Moore Colonial Park is also located in Mclean and shows life as it was in the 18th century. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children and is located at 6310 Georgetown Pike.
Another fun thing to do for those who enjoy time outdoors is the Potomac Heritage Trail: The Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail is a network of locally-managed trails between the mouth of the Potomac River and the Allegheny Highlands. Through five geographic regions, the varied Trail segments are a means to explore the origins and continuing evolution of the Nation. As of mid-2009, 830 miles of existing and planned trails have been recognized as segments of the Trail. The trail offers opportunities for biking, hiking and running and can be accessed in many locations.
Theodore Roosevelt Island Park is also locate in McLean. The island is accessible from the northbound lanes of the George Washington Parkway just north of the Roosevelt Bridge. The nearest metro station is Rosslyn. There are no fees to visit the park.
