Being Green

No one knows for sure when our resources will run out. I guess this is good. I know there was some study or book in the 1950s that thought we'd run out soon into the 2000s. Well we're there, and we haven't run out yet. But the point is that we do have resources that are non-renewable, and will run out eventually. These resources are petroleum, natural gas, and coal. We are, as a society, and a world very dependant on these resources.

It is important to be aware of the affects of our actions and lifestyles. A new focus on renewable resources and concepts like sustainability and smartgrowth can have a positive impact on our world.

What you can Do

Some Low Cost things you can do:
* Install low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators
* Insulate hot water heater
* Use CFL or LED lightbulbs
* Plant Trees
* Weatherstrip and caulk doors and windows
* Paint with low or no-VOC paint
* Collect rainwater to water plants (not for drinking)
* Install a programmable thermostat
* Replace filters
* Plant native plants
* Plant a rain garden
* Take advantage of daylighting
* Provide recycling bins
* Install water-efficient bathroom fixtures
* Install motion sensors in offices and other common areas that turn off lights when not in use
* Place appliances or office equipment on power strips to reduce "phantom" load (your phone charger might be using energy when plugged in, even when you're not charging with it)
